Travelling with a bike in Ireland

Irish Rail

Bicycle storage onboard an Irish Rail Inter-City train

Fold up bikes can be carried on-board all services free of charge. Please be sure all fold up bicycles are folded properly.

Bicycles are carried on Irish Rail Intercity services, for a fee (currently €6 single or €12 return online). However, besides the Cork-Dublin and Dublin-Belfast trains, there is limited space on intercity railcar trains (generally 2–4 spaces). You must use the bicycle racks — to find them, watch out for the bicycle logo on the first or last carriages (or also central carriages where two Intercity railcars sets are joined together).

Folding bicycles, with covers on them, are allowed at all times for free. See Irish Rail’s bicycle page for full details.

Bicycles, prams and non-folding childrens’ pushchairs will be carried only if sufficient accommodation is available; they must be placed in the luggage compartment or other designated area of the vehicle and are subject to a charge, per single journey, of €10.00.

Citylink will carry bicycles in the undercarriage if there is room available. There is a €5 charge payable to the driver. Unfortunately it is not possible to pre-book bicycles.
